Formula 1 is preparing to publish its planned 2021 regulations in time to meet the deadline for agreement at the end of this month.


RaceFans understands the new rules, which include a significantly overhauled aerodynamics package, have received only minor alterations following objections from some teams who felt they left too little room for innovation.
The regulations have been developed by Formula 1 commercial rights holder Liberty Media and the sport’s governing body, the FIA. A key goal of the changes to car design has been to allow cars to race more closely and overtake more easily.

However six teams – Ferrari, Mercedes, Red Bull, Haas, Racing Point and Toro Rosso – raised objections over the extent to which car design would become standardised under the new rules. “I do not support GP1 racing,” said Haas team principal Guenther Steiner at last weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix.

While some concession to the teams’ demands have been made, these have only been in areas which it is believed will not affect the work done to reduce the negative effect of turbulence from one car upon another.

Other aerodynamic changes to the cars were also accepted at a meeting of F1, FIA and teams’ representatives in Paris today. These included an increase in the size of the endplates in order to create more room for sponsors’ logos.

Among the other aspects of the rules discussed today included the possibility of reintroducing a partial freeze on engine development in order to limit costs. As reported previously, the plan to introduced standardised braking systems has been dropped.

The possibility of postponing the regulations changes to 2022 to allow more time for them to be finessed was also discussed, RaceFans has learned, but this is not thought to be a popular option. Ferrari will retain limited veto powers after 2020, but these will be subject to specific conditions.

A plan to introduce qualifying races at three rounds on the 2020 F1 calendar has failed to win the unanimous support needed to ensure it will go ahead, RaceFans has learned.

However the proposal could still go ahead if it is agreed before the start of the 2020 F1 season in March. The plan was discussed at a meeting between teams and representatives of F1 and the FIA today in Paris.
Under the plan, qualifying sessions would not be held at three races next year. Those Saturdays would instead feature a short race in which the 20 drivers would be arranged in reverse order of the championship standings, and the finishing order of those races would set the grid for the grand prix.

The qualifying races would be held at the French, Belgian and Russian Grands Prix. The races were chosen based on the point at which they occur on the calendar, the suitability of the circuit and how much overtaking has taken place at the venues in recent seasons. RaceFans understands Ferrari opposed holding a qualifying race at its home event in Italy.

The FIA is planning to abandon the rule that obliges the top 10 qualifiers to start Formula 1 races on the same set of tyres that they used to set their best time in Q2 – if all the teams agree.

In another change planned for 2020 that has yet to gain approval, the FIA wants to restrict practice starts over race weekends in order to create an element of randomness for the actual race starts.

Drivers will no longer be allowed to do practice starts at will at the pit exit. The plan is to allow them only on the grid at the end of FP1 and FP3 – a system that is already used at tracks such as Monaco, where it's not possible to do starts at the pit exit.

Ομολογώ ότι δεν περίμενα αυτή την τροπή. Πίστευα ότι η παρουσία του Αλμπον θα ήταν προσωρινή και ως ένα wake up call για τον Μαξ να επιστρέψει στην φόρμα του.
Ουσιαστικά ο δρ Μάρκο του δείχνει την πόρτα της εξόδου, το νο 1 έχει πάει αλλού πλέον (βάση απόδοσης ηταν το δικαιότερο εδώ που τα λέμε) και ο Μαξ δεν είναι βλάχος σαν τον Σεμπ να πάει να αλλάξει τις πινακίδες. :thumbsdown:
Οπότε τι γίνεται τώρα; Για να χωθεί σε κορυφαία ομάδα ο Μαξ πρέπει κάποιος από τους εν ενεργεία πρωταθλητές να αποχωρήσει. Αλλά ακόμα και να πάει στην Μέρκ έχει τον Μπότας ,δεν συζητάω για Λεκλερκ στους απέναντι.
Ίσως τον δούμε να μένει έξω μερικές χρονιές και να γυρίσει όταν οι συνθήκες ωριμάσουν ,σαν τον μέντορα του τον Αλόνσο. :hmmm:
Έχει χρόνια μπροστά του, ρούκι είναι ακόμα, απλά θα στερηθούμε τα σπάνια ταλέντα του εμείς οι εραστές του αθλήματος. :(
